Event locations will feature Thetis Lake Park and the campus grounds of the University of Victoria. There will be two key events - a long and a sprint orienteering event.

The VICTORIA ORIENTEERING FESTIVAL also includes the BC Orienteering Championships.

Highlights

Newly updated Sprint map to ISSOM standards for the interesting urban technical terrain of the University of Victoria Campus area.

Bonus training event on Saturday 28 - Location TBA. Orienteering maps will be available for download and self-printing. The course will consist of one middle distance course self-timed.


Start Times for Courses and Events

Update (27 Sep 13): Start List is now available. Please arrive at Thetis Lake Park at least one hour in advance of your start time to pick up your registration package and ensure you have sufficient time to walk to the remote start (20-25 min walk). On-the-day registration is possible. Those wishing to register on-the-day to participate in the Open Class should plan to arrive by 1230 pm (Saturday) for the Long Event at Thetis Lake Park, and by 9 am (Sunday) for the UVIC Sprint.

Terrain

Thetis Lake Park offers very extensive terrain, with an intricate trail network and typical pacific northwest coast with complex knoll/forest/rock outcrop detail, along with a mix of open to thick vegetation and challenging route choices.

The sprint event is held at the beautiful University of Victoria Campus with a variety of natural as well as man-made features.

Event Locations and Parking

Long: Thetis Lake Park. Signs for Registration will be available from the main parking lot. Approx 20mins from Downtown Victoria and 40mins from Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal. There will be approximately a 20-25 minute walk from the Registration area to a remote start located at the north end of Lower Thetis Lake. Click here for a preview of the map to the start.

Registration will be open by 1200 pm.

 

Sprint: University of Victoria Campus. Approximately 40 minute drive from the Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal. Watch for signs off McKenzie Avenue. Registration will be located in the parking lot by the Centennial Stadium. Parking is Free on Sundays.

Registration will be open by 8:30 am.

Banquet

The banquet will be held at the Kinsmen Fieldhouse located by the Juan de Fuca Golf Course just behind the Westshore Recreation Centre. The banquet will consist of a catered meal at a cost of $22 per adult and $10 for children (under 12).

Long Results and awards will be announced at the Banquet.

 

Accommodation/Camping/Billeting

 

The Robin Hood Motel has kindly provided a special deal for out-of-town orienteers. Just quote 'orienteering' when you book in to receive reduced room rates at: $80 for 3 adults / $85 for 4 adults / $75 for 2 adults with children under 18

Sport Ident will be used for all events. Please bring your SI stick if you have one. If not, SI Rental - $2/day

Registration and Package Pickup will be located at the assembly area and can be picked up on Saturday Sept 28th starting at 12:00 PM, at the Registration Area located near the main beach of Thetis Lake Park. Please watch for signs from the parking lot. Registration Packages are also available one hour before the start of the Sprint Event at the University of Victoria if only registering for the Sprint Event.

Enter-on-the-day registrations are available at the event for the open classes. Also, a limited amount of on-the-day registrations for the competitive classes can be done based on map availability.

Courses and Classes

Championship Classes  
  • Competitors are divided into classes according to their gender and age.
  • Competitors may choose to run on a higher course, if they prefer.
  • This event will not make a distinction for those in the Elite Class.
Open Classes  
  • This class is open to anyone not wanting to compete in the competitive classes and is suitable for beginners, family groups (up to three) and those with injuries.
  • Non-Competitive Men and Women's Open Classes are limited to Courses C-1 through C-3 for the Sprint, Middle and Long Courses ($10 per entry)
  • Open classes are also available for C-4 to C-6 for the Middle and Long Distance, but regular fees do apply.
  • Standings will be published, but awards will not be given out for participants in the Open Class.
