Royal Roads University Orienteering Event

Come on out to one of the best places to go orienteering! With an extensive trail network and varied terrain, the university campus of Royal Roads is truly a maginificent venue.

This event is open to all and includes a special junior (ages 12-19) competition. This event is also part of the cadet orienteering championships for Vancouver Island.

There are four courses available for all skill levels. Families and newcomers always welcome. Come out to engage with the outdoors, or to compete with your friends.

RECENT UPDATE: We will be using the Sport-Ident timing system at this event. This requires an SI-Card (finger stick), please bring your own or rent one for $2. No extra charge for junior participants. Info on courses has been updated and another advanced course category (C-5) has been added.

Registration: Located at the upper field close to the tennis courts. Follow the signs in from the entrance.
Registration is
from 12:00 until 1:00 pm. Orienteers can start on course beginning at 1:00 pm

Fee: Adults $8, Juniors (under 19) $5. Children accompanied by their parents - free. Annual membership: $5 (if not already a VicO member). Memberships are free to first time participants.

Parking: Parking is available on the outter ring of the field. Please note that a small parking fee per hour applies.

Courses: 5 course levels are available:

C-1 - novice - suitable for beginners (all controls are on trail) (3 km)
C-2 - Intermediate - short - suitable for those with some experience (controls on or off trails) (3.2 km)
C-3 - Intermediate - long - (4.4 km)
C-4 - Advanced - short with challenging legs/controls (4.2 km)

C-5 - Advanced - long with challenging legs/controls (5.9 km)

Details: Bring compass and whistle. Compass rentals and whistle purchases are available for $2. Leg covering for the higher courses (3 and 4) highly recommended. Bring an SI Card if you have one, if not these can be rented for $2.

This is event is part of the 2012 Island Series.
