The style of this event is sometimes known as a ‘Line-O’ which requires racers to follow a route that is marked on the map only; there are no trail markers whatsoever. Along the route, there will be a certain number of orienteering controls that must be punched to show that you have followed the route correctly. All the competitors will know is how many controls are on their course, but they will not know where they will actually be; this format prevents deviating from the marked route (taking a short cut) since the competitor will not know if they missed a control or not. Competitors will be started at various intervals and will not receive their map until they start. We will be using Sport-Ident for this event (an electronic punching system). Please bring your SI stick if you have one. Sticks will be available for rental at a small cost of $2 for the event. Location:
Durrance Lake
parking lot located off of Willis Point Road. The parking lot has limited
parking but there is plenty of parking available off the shoulder of Willis
Point Road. See below for a map showing the location of Durance Lake. Registration: Registration will commence from 12 to 1 pm Start Times: 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. (Note that start times are staggered. This is NOT a mass start event) Bring: Clothing suitable to the weather, good footwear for running over rough trails with some water crossings possible. Normal running attire is fine as no bushwhacking will be required. A compass is highly recommended although not necessary if you have good trail navigation skills. All participants MUST carry a whistle for safety purposes. Please bring your own. We have some available at Registration, for a cost of $2.00. Cost: $8 per person plus $5 membership (Club membership is FREE for first time members!). See Club Info for further detail on costs and memberships and special rates for junior members.
