Back after two years, the Newcastle Island Orienteering Weekend provided a great weekend of orienteering on a tough map, plenty of time for socializing and two fabulous days of sunshine. Turnout was lower as many VICO and GVOC orienteers were competing in the Mind Over Mountain Adventure Race in Burnaby or recovering from Sage Stomp the weekend before. We were thrilled to host the Lantzville Girl Guides who took on course one on Saturday. A few inquisitive minds also braved course two later in the day. We look forward to seeing them back next year. It was great to see Newcastle perennials including the Rhodes family, Kean Williams from COC and Katherine and Rainer making the trip from Vancouver.
Many thanks to everyone who pitched in to make it another great year: Patricia and Dave for handling registration; Claire Rettie and Richard Lay for course planning and setting; Happy and Marie for their vetting; Adrian for doing starts and John for meet directing.
We look forward to seeing you all out on the island next year!
