BEAVER LAKE PARK

With the end of summer approaching, its time to get out and enjoy a
fine afternoon at one of
Victoria's most popular parks. Beaver Lake Park is a great park for orienteering
with a fine network
of trails and some great varied terrain and nice runnable forest areas. If you
have yet to try out
orienteering, this is an excellent place to start.
Location:
Beaver/Elk
Lake Park - South End. Park entrance is located just off the Pat Bay
Highway just north of the Royal Oak turn-off and can be accessed via Elk Lake
Road or using the turn-off from the highway at Haliburton Road. Please follow
the signs in from the park entrance.
Parking: Park in large gravel parking Lot at south tip of Beaver
Lake. There is no cost for parking.
Registration: Begins
at 12:30
Starts at 1:00pm, Courses closes at 4:00pm
Registration Fees:
$8 per person, Annual membership required ($5). First time participants get
their first membership for free.
Details:
Four Courses will be available.:
Course 1 - Course will mainly follow trails.in easy terrain. The orienteering
markers (controls) are hung at distinct land marks on or near trails and/or
on large obvious features. Suitable for beginners and families.
Course 2 - More challenging than Course 1 - controls will be slightly off trail, but still accessable using trail network. Suitable for those who have orienteered before. Longer course than C-1
Course 3 - Longer course with more challenging controls. Intended for intermediate to seasoned orienteers.
Course 4 - Longest course, which will cover both sides of the park. Should be fun challenge for those looking for a good run. Navigational difficulty similar to the controls on course C-3. Suitable for those who like to run the entire course and work on their navigation speed.
